What to see and do:

  • The Main display for 2008: 'Inspirations from Nature'

Inspirations From Nature This represents just a small selection of items from the Collection – butterfly tablecloth corners, Koala Bear teacosy, "sheepish" jumpers …
  • Marvel at the work of the designers, especially an unusual collection of items relative to lace knitting designer Marianne Kinzel, 100 years after her birth. Her books on Modern Lace Knitting are still in print, available from KCGTL. She was also inspired by Nature and made shawls and doilies based on thistles, an English five-petalled rose, peacock feathers.

Want to know more? You'll find an article about her in SlipKnot No. 120, due out in June. Join the Guild now and secure your copy! Download now: Membership Information (pdf) and Membership Application (pdf)

  • Knitted Wedding STOP PRESS: the Freddie Robins 'Knitted Wedding' is now on loan to Sheffield Museums for their "Get Knitted" exhibition until the end of the season • More info

  • See how yarns, garments and fashion have changed through the decades.

  • Be intrigued by the older tools of the trade and inspired by the newest fibres.
  • Shop for exciting new books

  • Yarn Mountain Catch some of the 'lava flow' from the Yarn Mountain! How much can you get in a bag?

  • Made from rthe Yarn Mountain Look what one member, FR from Lancashire, made from the Yarn Mountain: more details of this real beauty, knitted the traditional way 'in the round' can be found in SlipKnot #119, available to members in March 2008.

Why not join the Guild now and get your copy?

  • Join the Guild on the day and receive 10% discount on purchases from KCG Trading Ltd
  • Participate in 'gloves on' sessions with precious textiles – we promise you will be amazed.

Guild Library Working Days

The Knitting & Crochet Guild’s Collection and Library is open to the public only during the warmer months. Winter is the time for housekeeping and preservation. The Guild is taking the opportunity this winter to drive forward new initiatives in cataloguing; in particular we are working towards Accredited Museum Status for our nationally important Collection – but more help is needed.

If you would like to help but think you live too far away, think again. Overnight accommodation can be arranged, or you can be met off the train at Leeds or Wakefield. Work will be going on nearly every Saturday this winter, other days can be arranged. Could you be one of the group?

Contact Liz at 0113 266 4651 between 9am and 5pm (Call Minder service normally on)

The Guild Collection is 'On Show' here

Please note: It is essential to find out beforehand which days we're working and confirm with Liz Gillett (0113 266 4651 or email), if you're planning to be there. If we're in what was the office and is now the Library, we keep the outside doors firmly locked, so please be prepared to make yourself heard. We have now arranged for a battery powered, wireless bellpush to be hung on the door when we are locked inside, so arrivals can easily attract our attention – it rings both in the main area and the former office. We also now have a mobile phone at the mill – 07908 322248 – which will be switched on during working days (and Open Days) for people to contact us if they get lost
